There are so many myths around energy usage and cost. So, this energy week, I'm bringing you the facts:
- Myth: It’s cheaper to leave the heating on low all day.
Truth: It’s usually more efficient to heat your home only when needed. Constant low-level heating wastes energy. - Myth: Smart meters only benefit energy companies.
Truth: Smart meters help you track usage in real time, avoid estimated bills, and access smarter tariffs. - Myth: Turning off appliances stops all energy use.
Truth: Many devices still draw power in standby mode - known as “phantom load.” Switch off at the plug! - Myth: Solar panels don’t work in cloudy weather.
Truth: Solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy days, just less than on sunny ones. - Myth: Energy-saving bulbs aren’t as bright.
Truth: Modern LEDs are just as bright as traditional bulbs and use up to 80% less energy.
