August 29 marks Starts at Home Day, an annual celebration of the positive impact that supported housing has on many people’s lives. It’s also an opportunity to tell the government and decision makers about the supported housing crisis, and what we need to do to fix it.
To mark the occasion, we spoke to two residents living in our independent living schemes to find out how living in supported housing has positively impacted their lives.
Shirley, a resident at Leeds Court in London, moved in 20 years ago following a divorce.
Valerie has only recently moved into Ensham House, but it’s already been life changing for her. In her previous home, she was bedbound for three years, due to the size of the flat and an inability to add aids and adaptations.
