We're committed to working with the residents and Hastings Borough Council to help reduce demand on the borough’s housing waiting list and contribute towards its housing supply targets.
The Four Courts Steering Group, the recognised group representing all residents of the Four Courts during the regeneration, were involved in the selection of the architects. They will continue to work closely with all residents at the Four Courts to help shape the regeneration.
Homes that residents deserve
We desperately need more affordable social housing in Hastings, and the Four Courts regeneration is an important step towards delivering the homes that residents deserve. It represents a significant investment in the area, and its impact has the potential to reach far beyond new housing. It will help create local jobs, strengthen skills, and open up new training opportunities for residents.
The biggest investment in Hastings for a generation
Improving housing in Hastings, including social housing, is a priority for the council as part of its new Housing Strategy. The proposals being worked up with Southern Housing at the Four Courts site involve replacing the existing blocks with a greater number of social rented homes that are modern and offer a higher standard of home. This will involve Southern Housing and Homes England investing over £100 million in Hollington – making this project the biggest investment in Hastings for a generation.
A project with residents at its heart
We’re excited about sharing the masterplan later this year, which will bring our vision to life. We’re really pleased that the Four Courts Steering Group, residents and the community will help shape these plans and we’ll be holding events throughout the year to gather their views on the designs. Our plans will see an increase of social rented housing on this site and will positively address some of the housing challenges in the area.
The history of Four Courts
Originally built in the 1960s, Bevin Court, Roosevelt Court, Kennedy Court, and Churchill Court – the blocks commonly known as the Four Courts - have provided much-needed social housing for the local community for decades.
However, we recognised the buildings no longer reflect the standards of modern living and don’t meet today’s design and accessibility requirements. Even with significant investment, the existing Four Courts would still fall short of providing fully accessible and future proofed homes.
The journey begins
Planning consultant, Lichfields, will lead the submission of the planning application for the masterplan. A planning application is set to be submitted to Hastings Borough Council by the end of this year. Martin Arnold have been appointed as the Employers Agent.
The announcement to regenerate was made last February. Construction is expected to begin on site in 2028, once residents of Bevin Court and Roosevelt Court have moved out and subject to planning consent for the proposals.
We continue to ensure a smooth transition for all residents, providing support and alternative housing options tailored to their needs.
