Following resident consultation in October 2024, we launched football and cooking programmes for young people on Stamford Hill Estate, funded by Social Value funding from Chas Berger.
Football Sessions
The football sessions, with ran from January to March 2025, have grown from 8 initial participants to 25 regular attendees. Head coach Kofi and assistant coach Hardi have provided weekly sessions alongside monthly inter-estate tournaments bringing together young people from across Hackney. The programme has also offered coaching qualification pathways for participants to volunteer and develop their skills further.
Head Coach Kofi from Salaam Peace explains: "Providing opportunities for young people and pathways to play in a safe environment. Breaking down barriers... building communities." Luke from Chas Berger notes that "Sport can be used as a tool to bring young people together... vital for community cohesion." One young participant shared: "It's fun meeting new people... I really enjoy the monthly tournaments."

Cooking Programme
The 10-week cooking programme, which ended in June 2025, supported 16 young residents across two cohorts. Led by qualified chef Zish, the sessions focused on building kitchen confidence and healthy eating habits through hands-on experiences where participants prepared and shared two-course meals together.
Young participants have mentioned they’ve enjoyed their neighbourhood more, feeling more connected to their community, gained increased confidence and found new friendships, all while learning valuable new skills that have improved their diet and overall wellbeing.
