What improvements have we made?

The hard work continues and we know there is still more to do but here are some of the ways we’ve improved our approach to damp and mould:

  • We’ve expanded our dedicated damp and mould team so we can complete more inspections and repairs faster

  • We’ve worked with residents on our Resident Communications Group to review and update our Damp, Mould and Condensation leaflet

  • We’re giving additional training to our surveyors and frontline staff to make sure they can spot and address damp and mould during inspections, as well as other emergency hazards

  • Additional training is being completed by all colleagues to ensure everyone is aware of Awaab’s Law and the need for awareness around damp and mould issues

  • We’ve streamlined our digital reporting and processes for faster response to damp and mould concerns and other emergency hazards

  • We’re reviewing the condition of our homes through an annual programme that checks 20% of our properties each year. This work helps us prioritise the homes that need attention most urgently

  • We’ve updated our Damp & Mould policy to reflect best practice, prioritising urgent health-related issues. Our process now identifies anyone with vulnerabilities in the household

  • We’re working closely with residents to ensure they feel heard and supported and partnering with local authorities when needed to find practical solutions. We liaise closely with other agencies and authorities to ensure that voices are heard and residents are supported when tackling damp and mould

  • We’re working with ventilation companies to ensure we’re using the latest technology in our homes. This is a combined approach to standardise the extractor fans installed in our properties. The special fans have data logging capacity so we can work with our residents and demonstrate how to tackle condensation and mould issues.
