Southern Housing’s Independent Living Team welcomed an opportunity to showcase their services this week, when they hosted Australian care provider, BaptistCare on Wednesday 8 May at two of our independent living schemes in south east London.

BaptistCare specialise in age care in Australia, they provide nursing homes, home care, community services and community housing (known as affordable housing in the UK). Keen to learn more about models and financial structures in older people’s and affordable housing, they’re visiting the UK, where the sector is deemed much more advanced than in Australia.

They were pointed in our direction by the National Care Forum, recommended as a team doing great work to align and improve services following merger.

During the visit, the group visited two different schemes, Leeds Court, and Halton Court, asked plenty of questions and had the opportunity to have a coffee and a chat with some residents.

The feedback from guests was overwhelmingly positive, with Judy, who led the visit, saying: “It was so interesting and helpful to hear about all the work you are doing, developments planned, and service delivery of all the differing services you provide.

“It was a treat to speak with your residents - that to us was the strongest demonstration of your positive confidence in your own best practice.”
