What is a scrutiny project?

Scrutiny projects are in-depth reviews led by residents, focusing on specific areas of our work. They help us understand what’s working well and where we can do better.

Past projects have looked at topics like damp and mould, our website, and how we support Tenants’ and Residents’ Associations.

These projects really do make a difference in your community and drive positive change.

Improving our website

In the spring edition of Shine magazine, we explained how we'd been working with the Resident Scrutiny Panel to review our website to see what’s working well and identify where we can improve.

As part of their project scope, the Resident Scrutiny Panel considered how easily residents could access information about their rights as housing association tenants, as well as the obligations we’re required to meet as their landlord.

The Resident Scrutiny Panel told us that having a dedicated section on the website about these rights would be beneficial. They also recommended that we should run the information in this new section past the Resident Communication Group, to make sure our messaging is easy to understand and addresses the things that matter most to our residents.

So that's what we did: have a look at our new and improved page.

Resident Involvement at Southern Housing

Our residents are involved at every level of our organisation. They support local groups, delivering our day-to-day services, and assist our Board with strategic direction.

Together, we can ensure we're delivering the best service for you and your community. We have a range of opportunities for you to shape our services and hold us to account.

Get involved

What's happening in your area?

Your regional panels are thriving, bringing together passionate residents who want to make a difference in their communities. This is where real conversations happen. Residents meet quarterly with staff to review services and help drive improvements that matter to you and your neighbours.

Residents are actively shaping priorities for the region with a focus on resident involvement, cost of living support, customer care and tenants' rights.

The panel’s focus for their upcoming meetings will be on gas servicing contractors, repairs in your home and major works, and they’re currently looking for new members to join.

The panel has set their annual work plan with a focus on resident involvement, repairs in your home, community safety, customer care and cost of living.

With a diverse and dynamic group, the London panel is tackling key issues around external management agencies and major works.

Covering a wide area, this panel is bringing together voices from across the region to ensure services are responsive and inclusive. They focused on community safety and service charges in their most recent meeting.
