Working together, Local Link, Yvonne Young and resident Board Member Daisy Meadows have a clear focus, to connect young people with positive activities and build stronger community links.
A strong partnership in action
Earlier this year, we brought together the Director of Communities at Chelsea Foundation, the Chelsea Supporters Club along with Southern Housing staff and resident, Daisy to agree a shared plan. The aim was to create more opportunities for young people to get active and feel connected.
Here’s what’s been happening:
- We explored football coaching on the estate and stepped in to fix access issues at the ball court so residents could use the space again
- We worked with Chelsea Foundation’s team on site, then quickly found an alternative when the court proved unsuitable for sessions
- Free weekly Kicks football sessions restarted nearby in April. We promoted these and encouraged young people to get involved
- A Soccercise taster session in the community centre during May half-term brought even more young people along.
Real results for residents
This joined-up approach is already making a difference:
- 12 young people from the estate now attend weekly football sessions
- Free, high-quality activities are easily available nearby
- Strong partnerships are in place to support future work
- The community is more connected, helping to reduce anti-social behaviour
- Estate facilities, including the ball court, are safer and more accessible.
“This is great progress and obviously making a huge difference to individual families and the local community in Fulham. All of your work on this is so important and meaningful and is much appreciated. Please accept my thanks, but the families who have shown their application and gratitude is what it’s all about.”
We’ll keep building on this momentum to create more opportunities for residents.
