A hate incident is when someone targets you with abuse, discrimination or violence because of who you are. These incidents affect not just you, but entire communities.
How we respond - putting you first
If you believe you've experienced hate, we'll treat it as such. We've adopted what's called a 'victim-centred approach', which means:
- We listen to you and believe your experience
- We record your report as a hate incident based on how you've been affected
- We respond with the seriousness these situations deserve
- We recognise the impact on you and act accordingly
When you report a hate incident to us, you're not just telling us what happened - you're sharing how it made you feel and trusting us to help.
We take that responsibility seriously.
Support and next steps
If you've experienced a hate incident, we can connect you with specialist support services. Hate has no place in our communities, and we're here to help.
Remember: If you believe you've experienced hate because of who you are, please report it to us. We're here to listen, support you, and act.
