What is an EWS1 form?

This information is relevant to leaseholders: You will need an EWS1 form if you or a prospective purchaser needs a mortgage; if you are selling, re-mortgaging or want to staircase. This form was developed by banks and building societies with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors to help valuers and mortgage providers quickly assess the technical information from an  external wall survey.

At East Village, fire engineers have completed reports on all blocks and have signed a number of EWS1 forms. These are available on these web pages where the outcome of an inspection is a B1 rating.

The B1 rating states that remedial work is not necessary, although in some cases the inspection did identify some areas of non-compliance and these will be investigated further.

The majority of blocks have been subject to significant intrusive inspection of the external walls. This is because, to comply with current government safety guidelines, building owners were not able to rely on the fact a building received Building Control approval at the time it was built.
