A week of community boosting activities has lifted spirits at two of our independent living schemes in Sussex.
Residents at Badger Gate and Magdala House spent some time getting organised and doing their bit for charity, when Scheme Manager, Hayley, arranged a swap shop event, followed by a skip day.
The swap shop invited residents to recycle their unused items, pick up one or two new bits for themselves and donate to the local hospice, St Michael’s.
The events were a great success and really brought the residents together, something that’s so important within independent living schemes.
Everyone had a great time getting involved, helping one another, clearing the communal shed and kitchen cupboards.
The communal lounge was a hive of activity, with residents meeting for tea and biscuits, whilst doing their bit to help.
Commenting on the activities, residents said the event was “an amazing success that was very well supported” and there was “great community spirit”. They’re keen to make it an annual event.
Sarah Hilbrig, Team Manager, said: “Hayley has only been with the organisation for 11 months and she has already made a huge impact in her two schemes, supporting our residents in an isolated rural area. We think she’s amazing!”
